This Is 40: This. Is. Spaaaaarrta!

Plot: Judd Apatow's real life wife and Paul Rudd turn 40 in a movie. They DO NOT like it.

With Caution
Review: You will laugh, that's for sure. Unless you are the two couples in my theater who decided to walk out (at different times). I can't blame them, this movie will blow away your raunchy expectations. If it was a TV show it would be MA-LSV, but the V is only emotional violence. Like any Apatow film, this feels real, which can be delightful or terrifying. It felt shorter than Funny People at 134 minutes (which makes sense since Funny People is 146 minutes).

Teenage angst. Sadie is not impressed.

The Five-Year Engagement: Patience is a Virtue

Plot: Jason loves Em-il-ee  (3 Ninjas Reference ya'll!) and they try to get married but things keep happening to them for five years. SPOILER ALERT: They do get married.

Review: This movie has charm for years, about five of them. It has all of the laughs you would expect from a Jason Segel movie, and all of the naked Jason Segel you would expect as well. Emily Blount is adorable, and the side characters played by Mindy Kaling, Kevin Hart, Chris Pratt, Brian Posehn, and Allison Brie steal scenes. Judd Apatow is involved so the movie goes on forever, but it just makes the five years feel more realistic.
This is the face of love.

Skyfall: Not the Chicken Little Story

Plot: It's a James Bond movie.

Review: Pierce Brosnan has always been my favorite Bond, so most of you can discredit me now. However, I really enjoyed this movie. It was a stripped down version of Bond with believable [enough] action and plot twists. The villain was also very villainy.

Spoiler Alert: He's creepy.

Portlandia The Winter Special: A Very Special Episode

Plot: It's winter time in Portland. All of the irony, none of the sun.

Review: If you feel like you've never seen anything like Portlandia on TV before it's because you haven't. It's so sharp, so focused, and so unique. Fred and Carrie mix some old faithfuls like Women and Women First with some fresh twists on pasta, electricity, and lunchtime. They make me want to be a better hipster.

One stop shop for vagina pillows. No pasta!

Savages: Not the Prequel to Disney's Pocahontas

Plot: Two guys, a girl, and pizza place, except the pizza place is Mexico and it's full of drug dealers fighting a turf war with good looking people from California and John Travolta.

Review: If you saw the previews you were probably interested in seeing the movie. If you saw the movie you were probably interested in your money back. There were drugs, sex, and violence, but not in any of the right ways.

Bottle Rocket: Not Just for 4th of July Anymore

The AFI Silver is running a month long tribute to Wes Anderson:

Plot: Two brothers play not brothers who play cops and robbers. They're the robbers.

Review: Seeing Bottle Rocket on the big screen was a treat. It will make you forget any ill will you've held recently towards a Wilson brother. It's quirky. It's awkward. It's everything you'd want out of a film. You might even consider wearing a jumpsuit.
It's not a film about fashion, but it should be!

Sleepwalk With Me: But Don't Wake Me Up!

Plot: A comedian who wasn't funny becomes hilarious by being himself. There's a lesson somewhere in that.

Review: If you like comedian Mike Birbiglia, you'll like Sleepwalk with Me. If you like charming, genuine, and funny independent comedies you'll also like Sleepwalk with Me. I liked Sleepwalk with me and think you should too. Full disclosure: I liked the book better, but I'm pretentious.
